How can we help?
Answers to the questions we hear most. Still stuck? Email us and we'll get back to you.
Email support@gateproof.appDoes GateProof need internet to scan a pass?
No. Each pass is verified locally on the device doing the scan — there is no live server call at scan time. Internet is only ever optional, for things like cross-device sync.
Do my guests need to install an app?
No. A pass is just a QR. Issue it, share it as a PDF / PNG / QR, and scan it at the door. Attendees never install anything.
Can I import my guest list instead of typing it in?
Yes. Paste it in or pick a file — GateProof reads CSV, TSV, Excel, and plain text. It detects the separator and maps your columns to names, emails, phones, ticket types, quantities, prices, seats, and zones. Each row becomes a signed pass.
What if my file is messy or not in your format?
There's no required template. Headers are matched automatically across several languages and common aliases, and it still works with no header row. Mixed separators, quoted fields, extra columns, and blank rows are handled; duplicates and problem rows are flagged. Nothing is created until you review a summary and confirm.
Can I run more than one door?
Yes. Put your crew on the same active team and connection type. Choose Wi-Fi when all devices share the venue network, or Direct when they don't. Redemptions sync across doors when sync is healthy.
What about duplicate entries across devices?
Authenticity is always verified locally. Across fully isolated scanners that never sync, duplicate entry is still possible — healthy team sync, coordinated doors, or single-device use mitigate this.
How does pricing work?
GateProof uses prepaid issuance credits via the App Store — one credit per issued ticket, debited when an event first goes live. There is no percentage skim on your ticket revenue.
Which devices are supported?
iPhone, iPad, and Mac (Designed for iPad). You can create and manage events on any of them, but scanning runs only on iPhone or iPad — the Mac can't scan, so it's best as a desk console for managing events and monitoring check-ins live. On a single iPhone or iPad, the organizer and scanner workflows can even run on the same device.
Who owns an event, and who can change it?
The device that creates an event owns it, and ownership never transfers. Only the owner can edit the event, issue or void tickets, and delete it. A device that receives a shared event becomes a scanner — it can view the event and scan passes, but can't change it.
What are an event's stages?
Events move forward only: Draft → Active → Completed → Archived. You set things up and issue tickets in Draft, activate to open the doors, then complete or archive when it's over. An event can never go back to an earlier stage.
Can I edit or delete an event after it goes live?
Once an event is Active, its core details — name, venue, dates, capacity, and team — are locked, though you can still move it forward or toggle sync. Owners can delete an event only while it's a Draft or after it's Archived, so to remove a live event you archive it first.
What happens when I archive an event?
Archiving is final. GateProof saves a snapshot of the event and its tickets for your records (exportable as CSV), then removes the ticket data from the device. Going straight from Draft to Completed or Archived also voids any tickets that were never used.
Does everything back up to iCloud automatically?
No — cloud sync is optional and set per event, so only the events you enable are backed up. Sync pulls remote changes, merges, then pushes, so a device that lost its data recovers its own events before sending anything back. The most recent edit usually wins, but a redemption or void is permanent and is never undone by an older sync.
What if the same pass is scanned on two doors at once?
Each scan is verified locally, so two offline doors can both accept the same pass. Once the devices sync, the first scan wins and is kept as the record — including which device scanned it. Across scanners that never sync, duplicate entry is still possible.
Can any device scan passes for any event?
A device only scans passes for events on its currently-active team. A pass from another team is rejected as a mismatch, which keeps separate events and crews from interfering with each other.
Can I create a repeating event?
Not yet — each event is a one-off. For a recurring series, create a fresh event for each occurrence.
